The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, March 6. For the 16th straight year, Lord of the Seas Lutheran Church and St. Francis in the Keys Episcopal Church will hold joint Lenten services. Those who want imposition of ashes early in the day can come to St. Francis at 9 am Wednesday. Those who want to get their ashes after work or school can come to Lord of the Seas at 7 pm that evening. The Rev. Chris Todd will begin a sermon series on "Making Lent Meaningful," to be continued on subsequent Sundays. On the following Wednesdays the churches will join for soup suppers at 6 pm followed by Bible study at 6:30. These will alternate between the churches with Lord of the Seas hosting on March 13th and 27nd, and St. Francis hosting on March 20th and April 3rd. The topic of the Bible study will be "Sacrifice." The public is invited.
The regular Sunday services are held at St. Francis at 9 am and at Lord of the Seas at 10:30 am.
Lord of the Seas is at 1250 Key Deer Blvd, 1 mile from the stoplight on Big Pine Key, just up from the softball field and is the tallest church on Big Pine.
